Situated a mile out to sea from the Hampshire coastline, this private island in the Solent was originally a fort built in 1878 to defend Portsmouth from invading vessels. Now known as Spitbank Fort, it offers entertainment facilities to suit all tastes and ages with a two-storey lighthouse available on a self-catering basis.
